Climbing up the steps of Wat Arun was one of the scariest things I did. Hehe. No, actually, getting back down was more difficult than getting up. :P
Just my luck as I was there for Loi Krathong (Festival of Lights), which happens once a year. Locals supposedly hold the festival to ask for forgiveness for polluting the river... by making candles float on the river. Hmmm... I didn't get to make a wish, but I did have lots of fun watching people make wishes and place their candles on the water.
I was also there for the funeral of the princess (king's sister), so I saw some people offering prayers. She passed away in January but I heard something about them building a special temple for her. I also heard that they mummified her body and only cremated it on Saturday. Unfortunately, this meant closure of the Golden Palace (which I haven't yet seen), but at least Wat Pho was open so I was finally able to see the Reclining Buddha. I also wasn't able to go to Khao Sarn because alcohol was banned the entire weekend. That didn't stop some of us from drinking at home though. Hehe.
I wanna go back purely for pleasure next time. :)
The gala night Thursday night was oodles of fun. Hihi.
