Visita Iglesia

Creepy...I'm melting!

Veering from the usual practice of just staying home, we stayed at my sister's beach house this Holy Week. Normally, my family and I just stay home and no one is allowed to have fun. I'm so glad my parents have finally shifted perspective and have become more laid back (to a certain extent).

Visita Iglesia (Spanish: church visit?) is something we do every Maundy Thursday evening. We visit 7 churches and recite a total of 7 of each of the following prayers in each place we visit: Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be. Anyway, we didn't really get to do that and just visited the 2 churches in the area. The funny thing was that my dad had us go in and out of one church seven times (as if that would really make up for our inability to visit 7 different churches).

We visited a really eerie church. I even wondered if it was really a Catholic church because our candles had these wax figures shaped like people (See pictures above.) which my dad said we were supposed to melt for different intentions. I couldn't help but think about voodoo and witchcraft, they were pretty scary. The church (well, more like ruins) had all these willow trees growing along the old walls. It was a very different experience - definitely one for the books.
