Raising Kids

If you're going to have children, make sure you're going to spend time with them. Parents, please take my advice:

talk normally to them
The worst thing you can do!!! Just talk normally to them so that they develop good communication skills. If you act stupid, they're going to copy you.

spend time reading to/with your kids
Does wonders, really. A niece and a nephew have stay-home moms who only work part-time. Their moms read to them everyday and it really does improve IQ. Just pointing to the words while saying them can help them learn to read faster, at least they'll be able to sight read early on.

limit your children's exposure to television (specifically noontime variety shows - unless they want them to start dancing like Willie Revillame)
Most of the young children I have tutored were weaned on television. It really makes them more impatient, I really think all-day cartoons contribute to the increase in number of children with ADD/ADHD (attention deficit *hyperactivity* disorder).

Read THIS article about the link between poor behavior and time spent in day care (from The New York Times).

If you're going to bring a life into this world, please do it right. This is one of the reasons why I'm still not convinced that I want to have children. The fact that I have to be responsible for another human being is just... well, scary.

Wow, we've been so obsessed about talking about having kids and raising them lately. In any case, since I maintain relatively high standards and expectations of myself I expect nothing less from my future children. I just hope they don't grow up to be stressed out kind of people since I'm not stressed out myself. =)

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll make a great mom. :)

Haha, I guess it comes with age? And I've been exposed to so many different kids for like a year, so it really makes me end up thinking about how they should be raised. :P
