I'm normally fairly easy to please, but this just wasn't at all up to par with expectations:

Cost: 150 per head. As people get off, they are quickly replaced by other people. The wheel hardly ever stops. It just keeps going around *very* slowly to allow the riders to switch. You get off after one round.
View: Just OK. Glass could use some cleaning. The bottom part is not made of glass.
Privacy: None. They're gonna make you sit with strangers if there are only 2 of you. (Boo!)

Well at *least* the carriages are air-conditioned. But I think even kids wouldn't find it *that* exciting. The ferris wheel at Enchanted Kingdom is way better. Although this is bigger, it sure didn't feel that way.

To make ourselves feel better, we stuffed ourselves silly at the Sakae Sushi buffet (not bad for 399). Too bad they closed their branch at the Fort.

We had so much more fun at the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center.

And we can't wait till The Mind Museum opens!

Do you still remember the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum and Science Works! at Shangri-la Plaza Mall way back when? :) Too bad retail wins over science. :(

So I finally tried it out. The truth is, it wasn't so much the strength required to do the lifts that I struggled with, but the PAIN from my skin rubbing against the pole. My skin still hurts from trying to stick to dear life to that pole. Noticed that some girls in the class had bruises (pasa) all over certain parts of their legs, especially the newbies. But well -- no pain, no gain. The instructor's body was so beautifully sculpted, so I'm still pondering on whether this is something I want to do regularly since I've seen the results. I also want to try that striptease class. I've always had two left feet, but since people were so supportive I had lots of fun.

UPDATE: I attended Cardio Striptease and Zumba classes last week... Of the two, I enjoyed Zumba more. I think I'm gonna go again tomorrow... So tired after!!!

The family and I stuffed ourselves silly at the Escolta (Manila Peninsula) lunch buffet to celebrate Mama's birthday. Sinful...

Hosted a dinner the on the eve of my birthday at Red Garlic Bistro. Close friends joined me amidst the horrible traffic that day. (Thanks, Friends!)

Had our traditional Christmas mass here at home (I'm not sure if this was the first time we had it on the Eve instead of on Christmas Day itself). As usual, it was a riot since all my siblings (except for one who is based in the US) plus some of my cousins and their families were around. They all left at around 1030pm then we waited for the clock to strike 12. Mama, Papa, and I opened our gifts at midnight. :)

And look what the boyfriend found -- The Wrinkle in Time Quintet!!! I had no idea Fully Booked carried the box set. I only came across the individual versions at Powerbooks. Kids, these books came way before Harry Potter did. I'm rather surprised they never made movies out of these books.

After the opening of gifts, my nephew and I headed to my sister's beach house at Terrazas de Punta Fuego. Traffic was so light, it took us less than 2 hours to get there. (And the toll fee was free too - What a treat!) Had some drinks till about 4am. My other sister and her family were also with us. When we got up at around 11am, we had brunch and rushed to the beach to go boating. I spent most of the afternoon on the kayak. Very relaxing. Was so relaxed, I was too lazy to take any photos. Heh.

Walked around Bonifacio High Street (BHS) with the boyfriend and helped him choose a gift for his godchild at the (disappointingly small) Toys'R'Us branch inside the building where Active Fun is (beside Dimensione).

It was really nice to see Bonifacio High Street Central when we got to the end of BHS. There's an ampitheater with a colorful fountain at the center - the type you could run through on a sunny day - reminded me of those fountains in the States near some of the malls. This is also where Jamba Juice is located. And since it's new - lines are just super long.

I never enjoyed going to clubs, but I guess once in a while it doesn't hurt to do things that are out of your comfort zone (especially if you can get in for free - Haha.). So last night I went to 7th High with some friends.

A very young-looking girl in a really short dress was dancing on the ledge which (naturally) drove all the men wild. I'm sure the guys standing in front had quite a view. I hope I don't spawn any children who do that. It would just break my heart. :P

The concept of grinding up beside total strangers just doesn't appeal to me. But anyway the 2 beers and half-shot of tequila made me happy as did the opportunity to do the running man when "Party Rock Anthem" started playing. :D

I just felt super deaf when I got out. I think I was the first one to yawn in that place. Haha. What a lola.

The next time I visit a club I really should revisit my lessons in Social Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology, etc. Hihi.

So I've half-cleaned out my desk in time for the new quarter. I find it so difficult to work/study when it's messy.

I was at the SM Mall of Asia the other evening and couldn't take my eyes off a big-ass ferris wheel seen from afar. I did a search online and discovered that I was staring at the MOA Eye. 55 metres high. Oooohhhh...

Apparently, the carriages are airconditioned! They have tinted ones too. Haha!

I normally do not like 3-D renditions of comic characters. So far, I don't think I like the way Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield, and The Smurfs look in 3-D. But look at Snowy!!! Adorable! Too bad we didn't watch this in 3-D. Even without the glasses on, I could imagine how they would look.

The action scenes were soooo fun! I don't know, but I just *really* enjoyed this movie so much. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Go catch The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of The Unicorn NOW at your favorite theaters. :)

My friend invited me to Rockwell's Moonlit Bazaar this weekend because her baby, Estela Shop, will be participating. I haven't really visited a lot of bazaars in my lifetime, but people say they are really the best places to get your Christmas shopping done - prices are low and you can buy items in bulk - so I guess this is really convenient if you're the type who gives generic gifts (usually to officemates)... but I suppose you can also look for gifts on a per person basis, if that's really your type of thing. Maybe you still end up saving money? Maybe it's something I'll try this year. Unfortunately, historically, when I go Christmas shopping I actually end up buying things for myself... Must... Exercise... Self-control... :P Good luck to me! Hihi.

What an eventful month!

Brother-in-law and a bunch of his partners opened Red Garlic Bistro early this month.

My parents celebrated their Golden (50th) Wedding Anniversary! Woot! This also allowed all us siblings to spend time together since my brother flew in from the US for this. It was also cool for all the grandchildren to hang out.

Yesterday I watched Stomp in Manila. One word: AWESOME!!! I was amazed with the whole Zippo routine. Perfect timing. Wow.

Last night, I attended the Oktoberfest 2011 at Sofitel sponsored by the German Club in Manila. It was really interesting because they tried to replicate the Oktoberfest in Germany. They even imported a famous band from Switzerland. It was as if the entire expat community in the Philippines was there. (Sofitel has re-opened, but Spiral is still being renovated. The target date for re-opening is mid-2012.)

I'm set to go trick-or-treating with a bunch of friends on the 31st, and I'm really looking forward. :) Fun!!! I think I'd like to go as Alice (in Wonderland). :D

I lost another windshield wiper blade in less than 6 months! It just came off! And like the last time, it happened as I was driving along a major street so I couldn't stop to retrieve it. At least this time it happened on the passenger's and not the driver's side. What's up with that? :P

Oh, and that same morning (as typhoon Pedring lashed out on us), I thought I ran over another nail. Good thing it was just a tiny rock lodged in between the grooves. Thanks for the super helpful drivers at the parking lot who spotted it!

Yesterday my sisters and I went to visit James Reyes and here's what he came up with for me. :) We will all be wearing different styles but the fabric will be the same for everyone.

I just found out yesterday that my mom and dad still have their arrhae from 50 years ago. It's still in excellent condition. Amazing! The event is pretty far away from now but we're all really excited.

Japan has always been one of the more interesting countries for me. I remember when I was younger I used to watch Japan Video Topics on local television all the time. They have such a rich culture and they really have their own unique identity. I've always wanted to visit the place.

Such a shock to see Japan crippled by these major natural calamities. As if the earthquake wasn't enough, it had to be followed by a massive tsunami. We were horrified as we watched the video stream in the office. :(

1) Something went wrong with the CR-V and parents are blaming it all on my falling into the lubak that one time. Okay fine.

2) I hit the curb because a cab made me gitgit.

3) On my way to work today the ball joint of the CR-V fell of as I went over the hump. Thank God I was still near the house.

I noticed that I am regularly plagued by the holiday sniffles. Boo. It's helping me not eat so much though (since I can't taste anything), so I guess it's not such a bad thing(?). Hihi.

I'm so glad though that this time it's not half as bad as that one particular year when I just holed up in the room for about 3 days beside the nebulizer. That was not fun at all.

It was really cool seeing Lisa Macuja perform on stage with her daughter. At the end she was showing her daughter off, it was sooo cute. She was obviously very proud.

There was article in the programme about Lisa giving up on trying to convince her daughter to be serious about ballet. But after watching her mother perform one day the daughter finally decided on her own to also pursue it as a career. :)

Since the charger of my Pentax Optio W10 decided to die, I bought me a new cam. It was all the old one's fault. LOL. Hahaha.

So far, I'm really happy with it. Point and shoot, indeed! I don't have to fiddle with the settings so much. And optical zoom is times 8! Great for the stalker in me. :D

My brother-in-law has had his wakeboard for quite some time now and I never got around to trying it out... I finally did this weekend though.

I amazed myself (and everyone else) because I was able to stand up assisted on the first try. The second time my instructor didn't push the board sideways to assist me anymore, and I was still able to stand up. On my fourth try I was able to make two and a half rounds. Woot!

I always thought wakeboarding required a lot of upper body strength, but I was wrong. You need strong legs for it. Apparently you're doing it wrong if you're relying solely on your upper arms.

My body hurts, but at least I have bragging rights. Hihi. I need to do it again and someone better take me doing it too! LOL.

Oh, and yes, my brother-in-law said I didn't quite "wakeboard" and just "boarded" because I didn't catch any wakes. Fine. I guess that will be my next lesson.

International Film Festival Mania

Yesterday, my niece and I caught Cosi e la Vita (Such is Life), one of the featured films of the Italian Film Festival at the Shangri-la Plaza mall. Not bad, it was actually pretty funny.

As we were walking out of Cosi e la Vita, someone approached us and asked us if we had time for another movie. Last night, the Korean Horror Film Fest launched with Epitaph. The first movie is usually by invitation only, and we were lucky enough that there were extra seats. That kid in Epitaph was a really good actress. Very convincing. I'm a horror movie fan and it did not disappoint.

These film festivals are free. They release tickets an hour before the movie (just enough based on the number of seats available in the theater). Line up for those at least an hour and thirty minutes before the actual movie schedule. Then line up again about 30 minutes before the movie starts so you can sit together (especially if you're in a group).

Wow, we actually have a six-star hotel in the Philippines! I wasn't able to enter, but my friend said the rooms at Maxims are absolutely divine.

I had fun watching the foreign acrobats (mostly from Russia). The mall is nice, but the parking layout is horrible. :P

spicy ketchup

While I was having my ulam burger this morning I of course placed a whole lot of ketchup on it... but something was wrong with the usual Del Monte Sweet Blend ketchup... it seemed quite spicy.

I stared at the bottle for the longest time. I read the ingredients. "Spices". I wondered if someone made a mistake and added too much of the spice. :P I looked for the expiration date but couldn't find it. Do tomatoes get spicy when they rot? But I seemed fine, my tummy wasn't feeling funky or anything.

Towards the end of the meal, I asked Yaya to taste the spicy ketchup. Confeermed. I wasn't just imagining it. She said it was spicy. She stared at the bottle and tried looking for the expiration date too...

Suddenly my dad butts in: Ay, ni-refill ko 'yung bote ng mga galing dun sa mga pakete ng McDo at Jollibee... Kaso may nasama na isang hot sauce eh. Nagkamali ako... Sorry! Masyado bang maanghang?

The pamangkins and I have started going on these food trips (FTs). Two weeks ago we went to Behrouz Persian Cuisine in Timog. Yum! They have these nice cozy nipa hut-like things at the back. It's open 24 hours, and my nephew thinks it's much better than Mister Kabab.

We were supposed to go to Banchetto last night but I was trying to pair some people up so I wasn't able to go home early. Too bad the setup didn't quite work out. Boo.

I'm so glad my pamangkins are old enough for me to hang out with. I didn't really get to hang out with my siblings because the age gap is so wide. Oh well.

So last night I was able to determine that I wouldn't be able to drive myself home after having a wee bit too much to drink.

I'm so glad my nephew was there to save me! He was sweet enough to take a cab to Makati and drive me home.

I hope I won't let that happen again. Normally when I drive I absolutely watch my alcohol intake. Just got sooo carried away in the conversation and SO many things were revealed about my dear classmates. LOL.

Also super glad I didn't drink enough to give me a horrible hangover. :P

I've always wanted a phone with wi-fi. Thanks to my brother, I have a new phone! Yay! He sent me money to get a Wii but I decided to get a new phone instead. Hihi. So far I am absolutely loving this phone!

It fits all my qualifications. I wanted keys that are easy to type with and a big screen. Whoopee. It didn't even have to be slim.

Yay, my brother gave me an iPod Nano (5th Generation). I love it! It's super light... It's weird though because it has a video camera but no still camera. Hihi. I read somewhere that the processor for the video camera is smaller than that of the still camera? Thinner, I mean. Well, whatever. I have a free music player. Yay! And it has a radio! Double yay! :D

I also got me a +Simplism Starter Pack which includes a wall charger, silicon case, neck strap, film protector, screen cleaner, among other important accessories. :P

Now I want my Nintendo Wii... HEHE!

Wow, I had SUCH A BLAST in Hawaii. I would love to spend my honeymoon there. LOL! As if. Hahaha!

Our beaches are much more comfortable to swim in, water is freezing in Hawaii... but their beaches are definitely much cleaner than ours. They really know how to take care of their natural resources. They have these HUGE trees all over.

I am definitely going back to Hawaii. I only had a speed tour of the place but there is sooooo much more to see!

I love it! I haven't gone on a trip abroad (for leisure) in so long. Next weekend, I'm off to Hawaii!!!! I'm super excited because my only memory of the place is the airport, stopping over to refuel on the way back to Manila from the US. :P We also stayed in Hawaii when I was about 3 and a half, and I only have pictures to remind me of that trip. :S

Thanks to my niece, I got a free comic too. :P Today is Free Comic Book Day at Fully Booked. I did some online research and apparently this happens internationally every first Saturday of May. Read more on that HERE.

What a fun concert! To think, we got our tickets a month in advance but we were at the side.

Oh well, I'm still super happy I went even if I had to drive and struggle to find parking for almost 2 hours that day because some people were rallying along EDSA. :P I even had a midterm that morning so it was an extremely stressful day. Hihi.

I have no idea why the front acts were Sandwich and Pupil. Sandwich started with an original, but the crowd really enjoyed when they started playing The Cure (Just Like Heaven) and Morrissey (Panic) covers. Pupil just kept playing original songs and people just wanted them to get it over with so Tears for Fears could start playing. (It could have just been my personal feeling though. Hihi.)

Some of the songs they played: Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Mad World, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Billy Jean (cover), Pale Shelter, Break It Down Again, Head Over Heels, Woman in Chains, Shout.

The energy level was amazing and Araneta was so full! Super fun and worth it.

International Women's Day is a pretty big thing in the office, apparently. It was fun wearing purple ribbons along with majority of the females in the office. There was a panel discussion on the achievements in gender equality in the country and the region. It was pretty interesting. I mean, I wouldn't call myself a feminist, but it's nice not to be discriminated against for being a girl. :) Let's break that glass ceiling, girls!

I saw the Austin Powers Suite for the first time over the weekend. Eenteresting. Hopefully the next bridal shower I attend will have a stripper. Never been to one with a stripper. Hihi. I was a bit hesitant to go at first because I had no one to go with, but I'm glad I went and got over the fact that I had to drive on over there, park in the middle, and walk to the room. LOL.

weird dreams

Although it's pretty cool I remember my dreams more often now, they are sooooo weird...

Dreamt I beat up a Korean boy the other day because he threw his yucky slime goo on me. I was just minding my own business when some yucky green stuff was hurled into my face.

Dreamt that last night we had to save Snow White from some evil monster (but she looked exactly like Alice when I saw her). And yes, all the other fairy tale characters were my friends.

I'm going insane. :P

2nd class citizen

Being a short-term consultant, I'm not allowed to join any of the clubs. Long-term consultants are those with contracts 12 months and up. Unfortunately, my contract is only for 11.5 months. Boo. Oh well, at least the Chorale took me in --- I guess not a lot of people are into that. :P

But nevertheless, I'm still happy where I am. My stress levels have absolutely gone down and I get to have dinner with my parents often. :) I don't have to go through Makati traffic either. :D

credit card woes

I used to pay in full almost all the time (save for about one or two times) but I never realized how the charges really worked until the other day...

I spent A LOT during the Christmas season. Anyway, here's what happened:

Let's pretend that I spent 10,000 bucks total. I was only able to pay 9,000 because I needed some cash for myself and thought that it would be fine since at least the charges would only apply to the 1,000 I wasn't able to pay for...

To my shock, I had such a huge finance charge in my recent bill. Apparently, if you don't pay the full amount, they still charge you for the ENTIRE BILL for the previous month (regardless of whether you paid the minimum amount or 90% of your bill). :(

Luckily, since it was the first time this happened to me, they waived the fee.

Anyway, I'm sad that this happened to me and I hope that you guys don't allow it to happen to yourselves either. A friend was telling me that apparently, if you keep paying the minimum amount, you could end up paying the credit card companies around 40% when you DO get to save up enough money to pay for everything.

That's sad, isn't it? People should really watch what they spend.

Anyway, I just wanted to promote St. Francis Square because it's just like going to Greenhills but much much better because you don't have to squeeze in with a gazillion people. And, according to some of the tinderas, they also have stalls in Greenhills but at higher prices because of the higher rent costs. I have yet to find out how true this is though. Hehe.

Great buys all the time! Bwahaha.

I obviously love the place that much 'noh? Hihi.

movie marathon

Saturday night I ended up watching New Moon and 2012. LOL. Talk about a movie marathon, 2 long movies in a row. I'm glad I watched 2012 last because I really did not enjoy watching New Moon... I don't know what it is about that movie, because I enjoyed watching 17 Again for Pete's sake. LOL. I'm not a hard to please movie-goer but I just really disliked it. I mean, fine, it was better than Twilight. And yes, it *was* funny... but the thing is, I don't think those moments were MEANT to be funny. LOL. I was kind of hoping a new director would help me like it, but now I'm sure I'm just going to watch the next one on DVD just to make sure I'm not out of the loop.

John Cusack did not disappoint. I mean, yes, 2012 had a lot of flaws, but I DID want to watch the world coming to an end and I DID want to see John Cusack in all his manliness, so I was happy. LOL. I will marry you, Mr. Cusack!!!
